Justice Surjit Singh Chadha, B.A., LL.B.-Born on 2nd June, 1927. He was enrolled as a pleader on 16th January, 1956 in the Punjab High Court and as an Advocate in the same High Court on 31st May, 1957. He was admitted and enrolled as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of India on 21st September, 1959. He was practicing on the Original and Appellate sides of Civil and Criminal in the District and Sessions Court till about 1961. In 1961 he shifted his practice to Circuit Bench of the Punjab High Court at Delhi and since September, 1963 his practice was confined exclusively to the High Court. From 1965 to 1967 conducted and handled Criminal cases on behalf of the State. In 1967 he was brought on the panel of Central Government Advocates for writ petitions and civil cases and since January 1972 till the elevation he was working as First Central Government standing counsel in the high Court of Delhi. He was also on the Senior panel of Advocates for the northern Railway Admn, State of Punjab and State of Haryana and Remained Counsel for several companies. He was member of the Bar Council of Delhi from 9-10-1965 to 22-4-1969. Appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High court for a period of two years with effect from 18-12-1974. Further appointed for three months with effect from 18-12-1976. Appointed permanent Judge of the High Court w.e.f. 15-3-1977. Retired on 1st June, 1989.
